the way to success

i have just finished reading malcolm gladwell’s outliers. i could not put it down for three days I was emersed in a theory of: opportunity + timing + 10,000 hours of practice = success. a phenomenal argument was presented that optimal conditions must exist for a person to be successful, if they practice for 10,000 hours.

as a holder of a philosophy degree this is reminiscent of Michel Foucault who suggested that any change in scientific thinking (the world was flat and now it’s round) has to have the optimal political conditions and such for the paradigm shift to occur.

what does outliers mean to me as a dreamer, a person that has always dreamed of achieving greatness. many skeptics believe that gladwell gives a realist interpretation of the impossible feat, but this book merely makes me want to log 10,000 hours of practice. if i can quantify things that i have always dreamed of then that makes it a little easier, and i only think of one thing, “i will not lose.”

Although I would’ve preferred if you went into a little bit more detail, I still got the gist of what you meant. I agree with it. It might not be a popular idea, but it makes sense. Will definitely come back for more of this. Great work
